APA Fall Concert November 19, 2009 7 p.m. First Presbyterian Church, Kinston 6th-12th grade orchestras will perform.

High School Orchestra we will perform at the Holly Days Celebration on December 1st arrive at 5:30 p.m. Downtown Kinston. We will perform before the tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. and then again at Queen St. UMC at 7:30 p.m. This concert is optional but will count for SERV hours! Dress warm, the 6 p.m. concert is outside.

 

High School homework assignment. Listen to the following videos. We will compare them in class next week.  You choose whether this assignment counts as a practice week or as extra credit on your Academic Festival test.

 Eastern Region Honors Orchestra Auditions: Saturday, January 16, 2010 Ashley High School, Wilmington ERO Clinic: February 26 - 28, 2010  NC School of Science and Math. You must participate in the clinic if you are selected.

 

High School Eastern Regional Honors Orchestra Requirements  (9th-12th Grade)

Violin: 2009-10 Concerto No. 23 in G Major, 1st mvt, solo entrance to first tutti, Viotti

Viola:2009-10 Viola Concerto, 1st and 2nd mvts, Telemann- The edition used must include the treble clef passage at the end of the 2nd mvt.

Cello: 2009-10 Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1, Courante, J. S. Bach

Bass:2009-10 Etude No. 17, from 30 Etudes for the String Bass Player, Simandl

Scales: Perform all scales and arpeggios from memory. The tonic may be repeated in each octave. Perform scales as sixteenth notes at a minimum tempo of quarter note = 50. Perform arpeggios the same number of octaves as the corresponding scales, eighth note triplets at a minimum tempo of quarter note = 50.

Violin: C, G, D, A, B-flat major 3 octaves; F major 2 octaves; any melodic minor of the student’s choice 3 octaves. Slur scales 4 notes per bow and arpeggios 3 notes per bow.

Viola:C, G, D, F major 3 octaves; A, B-flat major 2 octaves; any melodic minor of the student’s choice 3 octaves. Slur scales 4 notes per bow and arpeggios 3 notes per bow.

Cello: C, G, D, F major 3 octaves; A, B-flat Major 2 octaves; any melodic minor of the student’s choice 3 octaves. Slur scales 4 notes per bow and rpeggios 3 notes per bow.

4th-5th Grade Recognition Ceremony May 21st at 9 a.m. 4th-5th grade orchestras will perform

APA Graduation Orchestra May 28th we will start playing at 7:30 p.m. 6th-12th Grade orchestras will perform

 

Music Practice Log Requirements for 2009-2010:

This log is a way for you to keep track of your home practice. I will average all of your weekly logs each grading period. The AVERAGE of these weekly logs should be:

9th-12th Grade: AT LEAST two hours a week (or 20 minutes six days a week) of outside of class practice on your orchestral instrument.

7th-8th Grade: AT LEAST 90 minutes a week (or 15 minutes six days a week) of outside of class practice on your orchestral instruments .

6th Grade: AT LEAST 60 minutes a week (or 10 minutes six days a week) of outside of class practice on your orchestral instrument.

4th-5th Grade:At least 50 minutes a week of outside of class practice on your orchestral instrument.

                  

6th-9th Grade JUNIOR ALL-STATE Audition Requirements: Scales, Required Solo and Sightreading
