Monday-Wednesday, Thursday, Friday-We will work on revising and editing the writing plans, assessing each thesis statement and supporting points. We will also work on how to write a successful lead. Wordly Wise Chapter test on Lessons 1-4 on Friday.

Monday-WW chapter test on Friday, lessons 4-8. Complete Exercise 13 on page 433 after reading about appositives on page 432. Your test on appositives and prep. phrases is Thursday. Make sure you review your three rules identifying whether a prep. phrase is acting as an adverb or adjective.

Outside Reading Rubric for November 24, 2009
Monday-We will finish our discussion of Part 1; your test is Friday, September 25 on Part 1. You must know your vocabulary words, characters, be able to translate passages,information from the background handout I gave, and know what happened in the story. Use all the questions in the margins, “Review and Assess” notes from class, and graphic organizers. Read page 1020 and take notes for homework. October 7th outside reading due. In class writing assignment. You may use your book, but this is not necessary.
Tuesday-Pages 1020-1031. You will be given some time in class for reading and we will discuss the beginning in class today. Complete your reading for homework.
Wednesday-Pages 1031-34. Review your notes nightly for your test on Friday.
Thursday-Pages 1034-37. Answer the Review and Assess questions.

Tuesday-Writing prompt Additional background information for this novel. Search for the same above information related to WWII. Handout on WWII and
Wednesday-Writing prompt Personal stories about WWII. Read Chapters 1 and 2 for homework and complete the questions on posted study guide. You will have pop quizzes on assigned reading. If you cannot answer any questions from your study guide or are uncertain your answer is correct, ask as we go over each assigned chapter(s). You will probably have time to begin this assignment in class.
Thursday- We will discuss the system of government they boys have in the world before the crash and the system they set up after they land on the island. You will be given time to read Chapter 3 in class. Read Chapter 4 and 5 for homework.
Friday-Discussion of above. Read Chapter 6 in class. Make sure you're completing the study guide. Be prepared for pop quizzes on the assigned reading.

Monday-.Read Chapter 12 in Lord of the Flies. Essay test will be next Wednesday, Nov 4 Revision of Odyssey essays today.Make sure you have your flashdrive with you.
Tuesday-We will begin reading war stories which took place or included North Carolinians in Our Language, Our Ways. Today we will read "The Fringe of War" and "Great-Grandfather Writes Home" on pages 135-143 and 154-6 answer the questions at the end. Make sure you include all the bold-face vocabulary in your notes. You will be tested on these vocabulary words. Also read the "Preview" section to each of these stories carefully and include in your notes the important points they make about the stories you are about to read Include any important information about the author in your notes also. For homework this week, you will work on the VFW essay defined and discussed in the handout you will receive today. This is due Friday. Proofread carefully and make sure you follow the guidelines specifically. Make a note in pencil on your paper of the exact word number in your essay. Since the essay is very short, 300-400 words,word choice is very important. Review your writing rubric as you write and revise this essay. Keep the theme "When is the right time to honor our military heroes?" at the center of your essay. Voice really counts in this essay too. Essays due Thursday.

Tuesday-Continuted review of war stories. Test on Friday. Memorize "Flanders Fields" by November 20.
Wednesday-Read "December 7." Take notes and discuss
Thursday-Read "The U-Boats Return." Take notes and discuss. Test on all war stories on Wednesday, November 18.
Friday-Review above and complete activity on "Flanders Field." "In Flanders Field" document review notes nightly for your test on Wednesday. Also, continue reading your outside reading book. Your assessment is due Nov 24, 2009.

Monday-Read "The Scarlet Ibis" pp 554 and answer all questions at the end of selection. You should be reviewing your notes and tests from this semester and compiling a study guide for your English exam as we've discussed in class. Don't wait!
Tuesday-Discussion of above. Read "Jabberwocky," Macavity: The Mystery Cat" and the "Problem with Hurricanes" pp 400-402 and answer questions at the end. Include all vocabulary in your notes. We will discuss this on Thursday. Remember to use the "Literary Analysis" questions to better grasp the material.
